Volunteer Work

What is this?: In general terms, volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others or a particular cause without payment for their time and services. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life, but people also volunteer for their own skill development, to meet others, to make contacts for possible employment, to have fun, and a variety of other reasons that could be considered self-serving. In what ways are you actively contributing to your community? A community can be defined by your physical neighborhood or a group of individuals whom you share a common goal or characteristic with. It can also refer to any civic or government activities you take part in regularly.

Things to think about: When was the last time that you engaged in something to better your community? Are you a part of any volunteer organizations? Are there specific social issues that you care about and have done something to? Did you help beautify the streets around your neighborhood?

Examples of what to post on your site: Did you volunteer at your local soup kitchen recently? Post some pictures from that event.
